Pan United Limited have identified 5 key environment sustainability scopes:
1. Soil health and agrobiodiversity.
2. Optimise and responsible use of fertiliser and pesticide.
3. Responsible water use.
4. Reduce food lost and waste.
5. Reduce plastic use and adopt sustainable packaging materials.
One way to introduce sustainable practices into our business and suppliers is promoting certification system in the market like SPRING (Sustainable Program for Irrigation and Groundwater Use), an add-on that accredits suppliers with responsible water use, and BioDiversity Add-on, another add-on that accredits suppliers that promote biodiversity in conventional agriculture. Pan United Limited will continue to look out for suitable certifications.
Currently, some direct activities in Pan United Limited can be leveraged to become part of a comprehensive sustainability action plan in the future including:
• Ongoing tracking of pesticide use.
• Storage improvements.
• Packing design improvements.
• Adoption of recyclable materials in packaging.
• Improving expertise to minimise food waste by extending shelf life.
Pan United takes its role in the world seriously. We believe we have a moral responsibility as a strong company to push the boundaries of ethical initiatives and environmental efforts. All the suppliers we source goods from must hold at minimum a SMETA or GRASP certificate. We are proud members of SEDEX as well.
From a corporate social responsiblity perspective, together we have decided to support the following initiatives:
FoodCycle: supporting the community with nutritous meals made with surplus food
Raj Saubhag: supporting communities in rural India with humanitarian action. We work with the poorest families in India and help to fund schools in these areas, projects that focus on female empowerment as well as animal welfare. The senior management of the business are committed to animal welfare in their personal capacity.
